by Sue Zelickson, Tastemaker in Residence
INGREDIENTS
- 1 1/2 lb. beefsteak, cubed
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 cups milk
DIRECTIONS
- Cut beefsteak into cubes about 1" square, leaving a few larger.
- Season with salt and pepper and place in a shallow, well-greased baking dish.
- Spread cubes apart so that batter can run between them.
- Make a batter of remaining ingredients and pour over the beef cubes, making sure that some of the larger cubes have their "heads" sticking out of the batter.
- Bake in a 425° oven for 30 minutes.
Makes 4 servings.
Don't be discouraged by the Old English name. This is a very tasty dish!
