2 Days in a Football Fan's Life
by Cindi Sutter, Founder of The Spirited Table®
Sunday, January 10, 2016. Chatter, feeds, fans, media interviews, players and coaches were all buzzing about why Blair Walsh missed the last field goal that would have clinched the Vikings continued play-off run.
REALLY? That’s the question you’re asking? Talk about reactionary as opposed to reality. What part of “the only reason you were in the game at all was because he made 3 field goals” is missing in the endless badgering and media?
I’ll get to it. In my opinion the football pun-dents should be asking; it’s a team sport, right, so why in the hell couldn’t one of the greatest backs to ever play the game-Adrian Peterson, one of several great wide receivers or Teddy Bridgewater, their quarterback, find a way to get the ball in the end zone? And by the way, one great defensive take-away would've worked fine as well.
Trade one of the field goals and you’re in the play-offs….Duh…They got close enough for 4 field goals, and the last one was close enough that 1 or 2 well executed plays would have sealed the deal. We understand you need a scape-goat, but last time I checked there was only one man on the field who scored all the points; his name is Blair Walsh…so yes, we understand you're taking the blame, but NO, it's not all your fault.
The sum up? In Latin status quo translates to “the mess we’re in.” In our over connected, over trending, over analyzed world, take time to use your brain and get the facts straight. In life and in sport, please don’t take the cheap shot. Do your homework, be realistic and don’t set someone up for a lifetime of regret, just because the “team” didn’t get it done.
On a totally spectacularly separate football note…
Congratulations to Alabama and Clemson! I’m a die hard football fan and it’s hard for me to imagine a more passionately played, well coached, well officiated, National Championship.
I only have one question; why did it take the “powers that be” 100 years to figure out we needed this to showcase the amazing sporting event that is college football? For the answer, please see status quo quote above…
