W3 Book Club - "Sharp Teeth"

by Laura Chin, Tastemaker in Residence

Hostess:  Kate Miller, October 2015 - Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow

Kate Miller kicks off the W3 Book Club Halloween dinner with the poetic book, Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow. For the back story on the W3 Book Club read here by it's founder by Teri E. Popp, Tastemaker in Residence

Our host for our October book club doesn't like "cute" Halloween--she likes scary, good fun. To get in the spirit of the season, she chose "Sharp Teeth" by Toby Barlow. Written in werewolf free verse, this tale is told only through poetry.

While it does take some concentration to get into the rhythm of the book, given our poetry adverse societal expectations of literature, the reader gets into the swing of the story within a couple of short chapters. When reading a book in this style of writing, one finds the story line is moved as much by what is not written as is written.

To add to the gruesome ambience, our host provided the guests with Halloween crackers containing fun seasonal prizes and colorful table bountiful with food and drink!
