W3 Book Club - “Red Notice” by Bill Browder

by Teri E. Popp & Laura Chin, Tastemakers in Residence

W3 Book Club investigated the Russian spy underworld in Bill Browder’s non-fiction book “Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder, and One Man’s Fight for Justice.” Browder, an American financier, founded Hermitage Capital Management, the largest foreign investor in Russia until 2005.

When Browder’s Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, uncovered a $230 million dollar fraud perpetrated by Russian government officials, Magnitsky was murdered in 2009. Since that time, Browder has been on a campaign to make Russia pay for its crimes, leading to the enactment of the Magnitsky Act, which seeks to punish Russia for the death of Browder’s business partner.
