Food Donation at MCFM

At the end of each market from June through October, a team of Augsburg University volunteers gathers fruits and vegetables from our farmers to make fresh, healthy CSA-style bags of produce available for free pick up on Cedar Avenue to families facing food insecurity.

We distribute about 60 bags each week, or a total of 10,000 pounds annually. If you see our volunteers in green aprons at the end of the day, please tell them thank you!

Vegan Baasto Saldaato

This recipe was created by local chef Jamal Hashi for our food donation program.

His seasonal pasta dish that highlights the fresh tomatoes, spinach and kale that are currently plentiful at the market and in the free market bags this summer and fall.

Through the support of our sponsor, Delta Dental of Minnesota, we’ve been able to grow and adapt our food donation program, including paying farmers for their produce contributions since 2018.

This year, we are able to pay a bilingual community liaison to help at the distribution site each week, and are adding more of the produce items specifically requested by the families we serve.
