Foods that actually make your Heart Happy!
by Christina Meyer-Jax, Tastemaker in Residence
As a dietitian and nutrition nerd I think a lot about foods that will improve people’s health and wellbeing. As a human I also think about and want foods that taste good! At Valentine’s Day this means I want to be on the “dark chocolate is good for you” bandwagon. Wouldn’t that be a win-win? Good for you and tasty!!
Scientific research indicates there may be benefits related to the glorious cocoa bean. However, studies haven’t yet identified the optimal dose for cardiovascular benefits. Personally, I’m hoping discoveries lead to higher range recommendations. Ha! For now, it’s suggested to limit yourself to a few squares of dark chocolate a day and make sure the first ingredient listed is cocoa or chocolate.
While we wait for science to figure out the scoop on chocolate, check out the top rated heart health foods (according to Web-MD) and some of my favorite recipes. They will bring a smile to your heart and your taste buds!
