Super Bowl 2019: LA vs NE Food Challenge
by Christina Meyer-Jax, Tastemaker in Residence
Clearly there is a big competition on the field this Super Bowl Sunday, but to be fair many of us are in it for the food and commercials.
One of my favorite food challenges is the “What are you bringing to Game Day”? Yes, let the food and beverage battle begin!
Since this year’s match-up is West Coast vs. East Coast, how about a Super Bowl food theme that showcases the best of each regions cuisines for an off field competition?
As a dietitian it would be easy for me to be partial to California cooking with all the fresh produce, but the New England area brings a bounty of seafood and the quintessential plant protein powerhouse of baked beans to this nutrition match-up. Both areas have their nutrition highs and lows. California is called the “American Salad Bowl” for a reason, producing much of our nations fruits and veggies, but CA is also home to In and Out Burger. New England is well known for it’s heavy creamy chowders, but it also ups it nutrition game with fresh from the sea clam bakes!
So let your creativity go wild and dive into the regional food challenge. Here’s what’s on my healthified West Coast vs. East Coast menu! Without a dog in this fight, I think I’m just rooting for the “food team”. Stay hungry friends!
