Kiss My Glass
by Marty Nopper, Tastemaker in Residence
Have you ever been so busy you forget about beer? No? Me, neither. This month, let's take a little journey into a very serious topic. How many of you are familiar with why beer tastes so good sometimes and others maybe not so much? One reason could be the temperature of the beer. Perhaps you had a carbonated catastrophe by the way it was poured. Or even tasted flat or funny because of the age of the brew. All of those are potential doppelbock disaster areas but I'd like to offer you another reason. The glass isn't matched to the beer. What? C’mon Herr Hophead. Tell me it ain’t so. Serious…ever wonder why the mug comes in sooo many different shapes and sizes? Me, too. Thought it was just marketing or cost but it turns out it's science! Beer science (I gotta look into that). Anyway, enjoy the following graph and experiment on your own. Before you do, make sure you have a frigid foamy, it's no older than 1-2 months (date on can) and take your ADD meds before pouring! Cheers!
